Kenneth Okonkwo says Peter Obi betrayed him after accepting a new role in the presidential campaign of Atiku Abubakar. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain said Peter Obi, not him, ended their political relationship.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Okonkwo defended his decision to work with Atiku. He said Atiku recognised his value and appointed him as campaign spokesman because of his experience and commitment.
Kenneth Okonkwo says Peter Obi betrayed him after he publicly distanced himself from Obi in 2024. According to him, he concluded that Obi lacked the decisiveness needed to lead Nigeria.
Okonkwo recalled announcing his decision publicly to avoid any confusion about his political position. He insisted he had already stopped speaking for Obi before moving on.
“I’ve seen in him certain qualities that make him unfit to be the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Okonkwo said. He added that Obi, rather than himself, was responsible for ending their alliance.
The former Nollywood actor maintained that he had continued working as a public affairs analyst after leaving Obi’s camp. He argued that his political choices were based on conviction and not personal loyalty.
Kenneth Okonkwo says Peter Obi betrayed him as Nigeria’s political landscape continues to shift ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
