Kevin Durant made history on Tuesday night, becoming the eighth player in NBA history to score 30,000 career points. He hit the milestone with a free throw late in the third quarter of the Phoenix Suns’ game against the Memphis Grizzlies. The 36-year-old forward now joins an exclusive group of basketball legends, including LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Dirk Nowitzki, and Wilt Chamberlain. Julius Erving also reached the 30,000-point mark when combining his NBA and ABA totals.

“It’s a true honor to be in the same category as those players who helped shape the game and pushed the game forward,” Durant said. “To be mentioned with those guys, I must be doing something right.”

In his 17th season, Durant continues to be one of the league’s premier scorers. A four-time NBA scoring champion, he is averaging 27 points per game and shooting an impressive 52% from the field. Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer praised Durant for his dedication and work ethic, stating, “He’s just a special player and a special human being.”

Durant’s path to 30,000 points includes stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder (17,566 points), Golden State Warriors (5,374), Brooklyn Nets (3,744), and Phoenix Suns (3,324). He finished Tuesday’s game with 34 points, despite the Suns falling to the Grizzlies 119-112.
