Babatunji Wusu –
In response to the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria’s (FAAN) decision to close its branch at the Muritala Muhammed Airport, the management of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) has taken action that violates the rights of individuals with special needs.
The KFC at the airport was closed by FAAN.
The move was verified by a statement issued on Thursday by Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection.
The shutdown was carried out in reaction to the outlet’s violation of the Lagos State law on People with Special Needs, according to the official announcement headed “FAAN shuts down KFC outlet at MMIA.” Part C, Section 55 of the General Provisions on Discrimination was notably mentioned in this statement.
In response, KFC stressed that the incident did not represent its standards and stated on its official X account that it condemns racism and discrimination.
The company revealed that it has started working to resolve the issue and that it had given all of its staff members immediate access to sensitivity training.
The statement read, “KFC is unwavering in our stance against bias or discrimination in any form, with inclusivity and respect as non-negotiable pillars of our values.
“However, this recent incident has underscored the pressing need for immediate action. We have embarked on efforts to address the situation and extend apologies and deeply regret the frustration and distress experienced by our guest.
