Again, following the kidnapping incident that took place along the Calabar-Ikom Highway okomita axis in Akampka LGA of Cross River state on Friday, numerous people, including two doctors, a relative, and another person are now held captive.
Even though the Conmisioner of Police for Cross River State, CP Sule Balarabe, acknowledged the occurrence to Sunday Vanguard, he noted that the identities of the kidnapped individuals were still unknown because the operation was still ongoing.
He claimed that it was now widely known that some people had been abducted on Friday along the Calabar-Ikom Highway.
CP Balabare vowed that he wouldn’t stop until they were freed from captivity unharmed and that the Command would use all of its resources to make sure they were reunited with their families.
There is nowhere we won’t go; we’ll search the area and flip the forest upside down to make sure the abducted are released safely.
“This is a really sad moment, but I can guarantee the public that the subject will be adequately handled. I am on the ground with my guys; I’m not sitting in Calabar giving commands.
We will have a successful outcome because of the locals’ cooperation, he added. “I am on the ground with several teams, and we are hitting the nail on the head as I speak. We must make sure we secure the release of the victims unhurt.”
Additionally, a trustworthy source who spoke with Vanguard on the record while requesting anonymity revealed that at least seven people, including four men and three women, had been abducted.
The women were just robbed and released, the source claims, while the four guys were kidnapped.
When contacted, Dr. Felix Archibong, Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association in Cross River state, revealed to Sunday Vanguard that two of their members, one of their relatives, and another person were still being detained by the people that kidnapped them on Friday along the Calabar-Ikom Highway.
Dr. Archibong confirmed the kidnappers had contacted the families and demanded a 100 million naira ransom, 50 million for each of the medical doctors, according to Sunday Vanguard.
“I can vouch for the fact that two of my members were among those taken yesterday along the Calabar-Ikom Highway, Ikomita axis.
As we pray for their safe return to their varied families, I am also aware that they have called the families of the doctor and wanted 100 million naira, 50 for each of them. One of the victims is a doctor’s relative.
But I can assure you that no doctor has 50 million naira, as it is a significant sum of money, he added.
