Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Hajia Rafatu Salami, a respected veteran journalist and national treasurer of the International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria. Salami passed away on Friday in Abuja at the age of 55, and was buried according to Islamic rites at the Gudu cemetery.
In a statement issued by his special adviser on media, Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo extended his condolences to Salami’s family, colleagues at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the International Press Institute (IPI), and the management of Voice of Nigeria (VON), where she served as assistant director of digital media.
Governor Ododo acknowledged Salami’s outstanding contributions to journalism, highlighting her courage, integrity, and unwavering dedication to public service. He also praised her as a compassionate professional and a devoted mother. The governor prayed for her soul’s repose and strength for her family during this difficult time.
