The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, congratulated Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala, two Nigerians, on their victory in the 2023 CAF awards.

On Monday night, December 11, in Marrakesh, Morocco, Osimhen and Oshoala were crowned African players of the year (male and female categories).

Oshoala, who plays for FC Barcelona at the moment, won the coveted African title a record six times by defeating South Africa’s Thembi Kgatlana and Zambia’s Barbra Banda.

Osimhen became the first Nigerian to win the award since Nwankwo Kanu did so in 1999 when he defeated Egypt’s Mohamed Salah of Liverpool and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi of Paris Saint-Germain in the men’s category.

On Monday night, Kwankwaso expressed his happiness over Osimhen and Oshoala’s victories in the male and female categories for the 2023 CAF African Player of the Year on his official X handle.

The former governor of Kano continued, saying that their triumphs demonstrated the supremacy of the Nigerian spirit throughout Africa and the world.

He wrote: “I’m elated by the double triumph of Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala in the male and female category of the CAF African Player of the Year 2023. Their victories characterise the dominance of the Nigerian spirit on the African and Global turf. Up Nigeria.”
