Barcelona manager Hansi Flick took full responsibility for his team’s unexpected 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad on Sunday, which ended their seven-match winning streak. Despite the setback, Barcelona remains in first place in La Liga, with a six-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid, though Madrid has one game in hand.

Flick offered no excuses for the poor performance and credited Real Sociedad for playing with greater intent. “We have to accept this result because they were the better team today,” he said. “There are no excuses for our performance. We didn’t create enough opportunities.”

Although Barcelona started the match with good possession, they quickly lost control. Flick acknowledged that once Sociedad scored, his team struggled to recover, making a number of poor decisions throughout the game. “We began well with the ball, but as the match went on, we started to feel the pressure. After they scored, we made mistakes and couldn’t get back into the game.”

Real Sociedad had multiple chances to extend their lead, and Flick admitted that his defense made too many errors. “The loss is on us,” he stated. “We should have played much better, and we couldn’t maintain the possession we wanted. We suffered as a result.”

Despite the disappointing result, Flick expressed appreciation for his team’s overall efforts this season. “We’ve had some excellent performances so far, and I value what we’ve achieved,” he added. “We kept pushing until the end, and I told the team that. But today, we weren’t strong enough to earn a better result.”

Barcelona will now focus on bouncing back from this loss and maintaining their lead at the top of the table as the season progresses.
