The Labour Party (LP) has made it clear that it is fully capable of winning the 2027 presidential election without the need for a coalition. The party strongly rejected rumors of a potential coalition with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserting that its performance in the 2023 election showcases its ability to independently challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an interview with Punch on Sunday, LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, emphasized that the party’s strong grassroots support and appeal to Nigerians position it well for future elections. He stated, “Labour Party didn’t need any coalition in 2023 when it gathered millions of votes from Nigerians who wanted a change in leadership.” Ifoh further highlighted that the current government’s failures have only strengthened LP’s platform and potential for an even larger victory in the upcoming election.

However, while the LP is committed to running independently, Ifoh did not rule out the possibility of a merger, provided the conditions were favorable. He clarified that the party had not been approached for any coalition discussions, but would consider such opportunities if the need arises. Ifoh’s statement follows growing speculation about a potential opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
