The usage of its uniforms, kits, and other accessories by film and skit producers has been ruled illegal by the management of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) as of Friday.
This was announced by LASTMA’s general manager, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, in a statement that was also signed by the organization’s director of public affairs and education, Mr. Taofiq Adebayo.
Oreagba claimed that the need for the warning arose from his observation of a fully costumed actress wearing a LASTMA outfit in the Yoruba film “Gbogbo Lowo” as well as other skits and movies on other media.
He scowled at the disrespectful way the movie and comedy creators had represented the LASTMA institution.
The general manager claimed that without resorting to Section 79 of the Lagos State 2015 Criminal Law, which made such unauthorized use illegal, the organization’s management had denied the use of LASTMA uniforms.
“Film or skit creators who portray LASTMA Officer in their works must cease immediately or face the full force of the law if they have not applied for and been properly granted a permit for such portrayals.
“I think that sane movie production and laws governing the ownership and use of LASTMA uniforms will stop the spread of LASTMA kits, uniforms, and accessories in our culture.
The National Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTA) and other connected groups are kindly requested to inform their members that anyone found wearing the LASTMA Uniform without a valid permit will face legal repercussions, according to Oreagba.
