To facilitate urgent renovation work, the Lagos State Government has announced the diversion of traffic from Ebute-Ero/Apongbon inwards Costain-Ijora-Olopa of the Eko Bridge beginning today, Saturday, November 5, 2022.
The action was taken in response to a fire that broke out early on Friday, November 4, 2022, under the Eko Bridge in the Ijora-Olopa segment, damaging several portions of the bridge.
The Federal Ministry of Works will be able to conduct a thorough integrity assessment to determine the level of damage caused by the fire incident for the safety of motorists thanks to the diversion, according to a statement by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, who also highlighted the alternate routes.
According to this development, drivers are recommended to use the Ebute Ero, Police Post, Adeniji-Adele Bridge, Carter (Idumota) Bridge, Ijora Olopa, Ijora Oloye, and Iganmu through Costain bridges to reach their destinations, according to Oladeinde.
Oladeinde advised drivers to use an alternate route that included Ebute Ero to the police station, the Third Mainland Bridge to Adekunle to Herbert Macaulay Way, and Adekunle Street just across from Panti Police Station.
He added that the Murtala Mohammed Way can be reached via Alagomeji by way of Oyingbo, Iddo, Ijora Olopa, Ijora Oloye, Iganmu, and Costain in order to reach the appropriate locations.
Oladeinde said that starting on Monday, November 7, 2022, drivers will also have access to Costain via Ijora Olopa (near LAWMA Headquarters) and the Eko Bridge.
Oladeinde emphasized that “the state government is fully dedicated to guaranteeing the safety of the commuting public inside the city” and reaffirmed that the State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has been deployed along the alternate routes to reduce inconveniences.
