In the interest of public safety, the Lagos State Safety Commission has closed 19 event venues due to safety violations.
This was revealed by the director general of the commission, Lanre Mojola, during a recent regular inspection and on-the-spot evaluation of a few event centers throughout the state.
Mojola claims that the safety evaluation exercise is a continuous endeavor to fulfill the commission’s objective of guaranteeing zero accidents, especially in this holiday season.
According to Mojola, prior to the exercise, the commission had notified all owners of event centers via their respective associations of the necessity of implementing safety best practices at all events and properly registering all events with 250 guests or more through its registration portal in order to receive an Event Safety Permit.
He stated that by closing these event venues for violating previously set safety procedures, the commission has taken firm measures to ensure adherence to fundamental safety regulations and safer events.
White Stone Event Center, Lekki Coliseum, Leisure Park, La Madison, Haddasah, The Summit, Villa Park, De Dove, Majesty, The Podium, Celebrations Gardens, and Tastee Event Centers are a few of the event venues that have been sealed.
According to Mojola, the commission will keep carrying out regular inspections to make sure the state’s hospitality and events industries follow safety regulations.
Additionally, he exhorted the public to notify the commission of any safety violations they witness at public events and facilities.
