A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mrs Foluke Osafile, has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing the need to better serve her constituents and secure their future.
Osafile, who represents Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I, confirmed the defection on Saturday, saying the move was deliberate and guided by her commitment to effective representation. She said her decision aligns with her desire to deepen good governance and amplify the voices of ordinary Nigerians.
According to her, she plans to work closely with ADC leaders to strengthen democratic institutions and advance policies that directly benefit the people. Osafile also reassured constituents of her continued loyalty, stressing that their trust remains central to her legislative priorities.
The lawmaker, who won her seat in the 2023 general elections on the platform of the Labour Party, is expected to formally announce her defection on the floor of the House during plenary in the coming days.
Her victory in the election was initially nullified by an election tribunal but was later restored by the Court of Appeal, bringing the legal dispute over the seat to an end.
