Arungwa Nwazue, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 5 has firmly opposed land grabbing in the area.

Nwazue stated that going forward, anyone implicated in land grabbing would be instantly detained and prosecuted with a crime. The statement was signed by DSP Tijani Momoh, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer in the zone that includes the states of Edo and Delta.

Momoh claimed that in accordance with the AIG’s position and direction, zone agents had detained and charged one Peter Erhinwinoese with conspiracy, forcible entry, intentional damage, and theft.

He said that a petition from one Samson Aiwuyor of the Amagba community, Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State, was the basis for Erhinwinoese’s arrest and arraignment.

According to him, the petitioner claimed that the aforementioned Erhinwinoese, a former Amagba community chairman, sold him land measuring 100 feet by 100 feet.

“I fenced the land and began operating a fish farming business on it after the land was surveyed and acquired.”Peter Erhinwinoese, who sold the land to me, however, brought some boys onto the property, tore down the fence, and stopped me from getting to my fish pond.

According to the petitioner, “as a result, some of my pond’s fish were stolen, while others perished due to lack of access to food,” according to the ZPPRO.

He claimed that the AIG had launched an inquiry as soon as they received the petition and that the results showed that Erhinwinoese and his boys had indeed stolen the fish, broken the fence, and built a new one.

He claimed that on Thursday, in accordance with the AIG’s order, the suspect was arraigned in court after a prima facie case of conspiracy, malicious damage, and theft against him and other suspects who are still at large was established.

The zone, according to Nwazue, would “sustain the tempo to ensure that sanity is completely restored as regards land grabbing” in the zone, the speaker reported.

The AIG also requested information from the public to aid the police in their efforts to combat crime and criminality.
