Bola Abiodun, a landlord, and her husband, named only as Sunday, are said to have fled after disposing of their tenant’s body in an Ogun State canal.
The incident apparently occurred on May 8, 2024, at approximately 12:05 p.m. in the Temidire community residence in the state’s Ifo Local Government Area.
According to Punch, the state police command initiated a manhunt for the couple after they went missing following the alleged crime.
A police source told the aforementioned site that the renter, who went by the name Iya Ibukun, was previously knocked down by a hit and run vehicle on May 5, 2024.
After suffering varying degrees of harm in the accident, the deceased turned to self-medication out of fear that she would be unable to pay her medical bills.
After turning to self-medication, she died in her apartment a few days later.
The landlady and her husband allegedly removed the corpse from the room and disposed of it in a nearby canal.
Suspicious citizens reportedly phoned Mosuru Akindele, chairman of the Community Development Association, to report the occurrence.
“There was an accident, and a hit-and-run vehicle allegedly knocked the tenant down. She avoided going to the hospital and began treating herself at home. She died a few days following the incident. The landlady and her husband planned to dump the body in a canal, according to a police source.
Omolola Odutola, the state police public relations officer, also confirmed the occurrence.
“Our officers arrived at the house and discovered a two-year-old boy in a welfare facility. Meanwhile, our men searched the entire canal for the body, but we discovered nothing,” she explained.
