Seun Kuti’s lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, a senior Nigerian advocate, has charged that the police maltreated his client when he was being held for assaulting a police officer.
In a statement on May 16, the attorney said that the cops had stoned his client for declining to offer a statement.
The attorney claimed that because the police had released their findings on the incident without consulting him, his client had chosen not to provide a written account of the altercation with the police officer.
He asserts that “Mr. Seun Kuti would have expected that Mr. Benjamin Hundeyin, who goes by the official title of Lagos State Police PRO but also serves as the Investigating Police Officer into the case, would proceed in accordance with the law by sending the file containing his report of investigation for legal evaluation towards potential prosecution.
