At the offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has organized a demonstration against the results of the election that took place on Saturday, February 25.
Among the leaders are Atiku Abubakar, the party’s vice presidential candidate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, and Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the party.
Others include Aminu Tambuwal, the governor of Sokoto State, the director general of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), and Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel.
The PDP stated that it disagrees with INEC’s pronouncement that Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has won the 2023 election.
In order to defeat rival candidates like Atiku, who received 6,984,520 votes, the APC candidate received 8,794,726 votes. Peter Obi of the Labour Party finished third with 6,101,533 votes, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) received 1,496,687 votes.
Following the announcement, Atiku and the PDP rejected the results and charged INEC with rigging the election to favor Tinubu and the APC.
The PDP presidential candidate criticized INEC for failing to post election day results from polling places on the Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
He claimed that the election was the worst run since the nation’s return to democratic governance, and he vowed to contest the results because he believed the judiciary would handle the situation fairly.
“The election over the weekend was neither free nor fair. According to early evaluations, these elections were the worst run since democracy was restored. According to Atiku, this election was marred by unprecedented levels of fraud and manipulation.
