The Federal High Court in Lagos State has dismissed the case against Pascal Okechukwu, famously known as Cubana Chief Priest, regarding the alleged abuse of the Naira currency notes. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had brought charges against him on April 17, accusing him of contravening Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act of 2007 through the mishandling and spraying of Naira notes.
Cubana Chief Priest pleaded not guilty to the charges and was subsequently granted bail set at N10 million. The case was scheduled for further proceedings on May 2, during which Mr. Chikaosolu Ojukwu, SAN, representing Okechukwu, indicated that both parties were exploring a resolution under Section 14(2) of the EFCC Act.
Following negotiations, the defence counsel requested the withdrawal of a preliminary objection, a move that went unopposed by the prosecution and was granted by the court.
Taking to his Instagram page, Cubana Chief Priest announced that the court had dismissed his case during the hearing held on June 25. He expressed gratitude for the outcome and informed his followers about being cautioned and discharged.
In addition to sharing the news of the dismissal, Cubana Chief Priest used his platform to caution his fans and followers against the illegal act of mutilating Naira notes, emphasizing the importance of respecting the integrity of the currency.
This resolution marks the end of a legal ordeal for Cubana Chief Priest, allowing him to move forward from the allegations and continue his endeavors.
