Tunji Wusu –
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) faction has issued a sit-at-home order today, and the Enugu State Government has once more asked residents to ignore it and carry on with their daily lives.
As punishment for civil officials, schools, marketplaces, and “others that observe the illegal IPOB order,” the government orders activity to resume on Mondays. The instruction was stated in a statement Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, Secretary to the State Government, signed over the weekend in Enugu.
The Enugu State Government wished to warn its citizens that the unconstitutional Monday sit-at-home order was still prohibited, he said.
As a result, it is therefore ordered that government employees, schools, markets, financial institutions, commercial locations, and others resume their regular operations on Monday.
Onyia continued by saying that the state government has reaffirmed its intention to impose consequences on violators of its decision to revoke the unlawful order.
“Shops in markets that close on Monday shall be locked off and re-allocated to those ready to do business in the state. Markets that fail to open to clients on Monday shall be closed indefinitely.
According to him, “Government extends the same warning of sanctions against schools, financial institutions, shopping centers, department stores, business premises, and others that may defy its directive.”
The illegal sit-at-home command, according to Onyia, is completely at odds with the Igbo spirit of enterprise, hard work, productivity, and creativity. To protect lives and property, he said, “security measures have been put in place, so the public is urged to go about their daily activities.”
