LIVERPOOL THRASHED 3-0 AT WOLVES

Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are in danger of relegation, embarrassed Jurgen Klopp’s struggling Liverpool on Saturday by defeating the underachieving Reds 3-0.

Wolves quickly made inroads into Liverpool’s porous defense, but they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities. In the fifth minute, a Hwang Hee-Chan cutback was deflected in by Joel Matip’s heel for an own goal.

Following some more shoddy defence by the visitors, Wolves rookie Craig Dawson slammed in the second goal from close range while going unnoticed.

a fervent Ruben Neves effectively finished the game in the 71st minute after controlling and poking the ball in at the end of a brilliant counterattack by the home team. Liverpool had began the second half well.

After a dismal start to 2023, in which it has only won one of seven games (against Wolves in the F.A. Cup), Liverpool is now 10th on 29 points.

Klopp’s injury-riddled and self-doubting squad is a shell of the team that came dangerously close to a historic quadruple last season, when it won two domestic cups and finished second in both the Champions League and Premier League.

As a result, Liverpool suffered its third straight league defeat. It allayed Wolves’ concerns that they would be demoted to the Championship by moving them up to 15th place on 20 points, two points above the bottom three.
