Babatunji Wusu –

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has been tasked with reaching an agreement with Rivers State Governor Siminilayi Fubara.

The Ijaw National Congress Worldwide (INC) made the request in a statement issued by its President, Benjamin Okaba, on Sunday in Akure, Ondo State.

The INC, which expressed its discontent with the state’s political problems, particularly between Fubara and his predecessor, stated that it would always be on the side of truth and good administration.

The group, which praised the people of Rivers State for opposing the alleged planned impeachment of Fubara, urged Wike not to destabilize the state’s existing administration.

“We urgently call on all political players in Rivers State to do their duty to their constituents and immediately cease from any further acts capable of sullying the sanctity of the office, institution, and person of the Governor of all Rivers people,” the statement said.

“We specifically appeal to Chief Nyesom Wike to desist from inciting division against the government of the day in the name of protecting his’structure.'” The political structure to which he speaks should not be conflated with the structure of Governor Fubara’s government as a single entity subject to anyone’s control.

“On our part, the Ijaw National Congress worldwide, at all levels and organs across Ijawland and the diaspora should be alive to the sacred responsibility of watching over and protecting the interests of our people anywhere and anytime.”

The group also praised President Bola Tinubu, an elder statesman, Edwin Clarke, and other prominent Nigerians for their involvement in the situation.

It urged the people of the state to stay vigilant, steadfast, and cooperative with law enforcement officials in order to keep the peace in Rivers State and the Niger Delta as a whole.
