The designate Secretary to the State Government (SSG) has been named by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo. Mrs. Olanike Adeyemo is a Professor at the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine at the University of Ibadan.
The news was made in a statement released on Monday in Ibadan by Mr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary.
Prof. Adeyemo was born on July 17, 1970, and served as the team leader of the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force’s Decontamination and Containment team.
She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M. ), Master of Veterinary Public Health (MVPH), and Doctor of Veterinary Public Health (Ph.D.) from the University of Georgia in 1994, 1998, and 2005, respectively.
She is a COMSTECH distinguished scholar and served as the university’s first deputy vice chancellor for research, innovation, and strategic partnerships from 2017 to 2021.
She began working at the university in March 1999 as a lecturer Grade II in the division of veterinary preventive medicine and public health.
In 2002, she was promoted to lecturer 1, then senior lecturer/assistant professor, reader, and associate professor in 2005. She was appointed a full professor in October 2011.
She worked as a visiting scholar at the Center for Human and Environmental Toxicology, Department of Physiological Sciences, University of Florida, Gainesville, sponsored by the Schlumberger Foundation from August 2013 to July 2015.
“Prof. Adeyemo served as the first deputy vice chancellor for research, innovation, and strategic partnerships at the University of Ibadan in Ibadan between March 13, 2017, and March 12, 2021.
She is a Registered Veterinary Surgeon, a 2013 Fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeon, Nigeria, and a Fellow of other academies, including the International Science Council (ISC).
The African Scientific Institute (ASI), the Nigerian Academy of Sciences, the African Academy of Sciences, and the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) are all scientific organizations.
Additionally, she belongs to a number of academic societies, such as the Society of Toxicology (SOT), the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), and the Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON).
“She is a member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSDW) and the World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association (WAVMA).
“Prof Adeyemo’s scholarship and leadership are around ‘One Health’ trans-disciplinary research that cuts across traditional boundaries and paradigms to create novel conceptual, methodological, and translational innovation at the environment-livestock-wildlife-human interface with significant policy implications for Nigeria, the African Continent, and the rest of the world,” the statement said.
Adeyemo is a well-read academic with a long list of publications to her name.
