A man found with the dead body of his friend’s child was spared thanks to the prompt action of police officers from the Ilemba-Hausa Division under the Lagos State Command.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police public relations officer in Lagos, verified the circumstance to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday.
According to Hundeyin, the event occurred on Friday when a guy helping a friend bury his dead child was nearly lynched when some locals discovered the corpse alongside them.
He claimed that the locals mistrusted him and thought he was a ritual killer who might have kidnapped and murdered the youngster.
The photographer claimed that after being severely beaten by the locals, he was carried to the Ilemba-Hausa police station.
“After being questioned, he admitted to the authorities that the youngster had recently passed away at the hospital after being sick for some time.
He claimed that the parents hired him to assist with the child’s burial. He was on his way to bury the child when he was confronted by several locals who believed he was there to do them harm.
The man’s story was corroborated by the parents of the deceased child, who were invited to the station, according to Hundeyin.
The accused man and his parents, according to the spokeswoman, have been freed to carry out the burial as scheduled.
