A state High Court in the Ikot Ekpene local government judicial division in Akwa Ibom State has sentenced a 25-year-old man, Idorenyin Udoh Umoh, to 14 years in jail for the rape of a 17-year-old female.
According to the court records, the guy has been on trial for the rape of the girl from the same neighborhood since May 2022.
Over the weekend, Justice Charles Ikpe condemned him after finding him guilty.
Judge Ikpe sentenced him to two years in jail after finding him guilty of the assault charge.
According to the case file, the defendant had threatened the girl and her companion as they went to harvest mangoes behind their family’s Utu Ikpe compound, forcing the girl to flee.
The girl also fled into a nearby thicket, but the man pursued her, hitting her in the head with a stone at close range, overpowering her, and sexually abusing her in the bush.
The Ministry of Justice on behalf of the state prosecuted Umoh, who was taken into custody on May 25, 2022, in Utu Ikpe village.
