Chimezie Udeji, 42, was charged with N600,000 in fraud on Monday at the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Earlier, ASP Clement Okuiomose, the prosecutor, told the court that Udeji committed the crime in the Badagry, Lagos, Ibereko neighborhood at some point in August 2023.
According to him, the complainant, Aluko Gbenga, gave the defendant N600,000 under the false pretense of building aluminum windows for him.
He continued by saying that the defendant did not build the windows; instead, they took the money from the defendant and fled.
The defendant was later found and turned over to the police so they could pursue charges, according to the prosecutor.
The congressman went on to say that the N3.7 trillion indicated is the budget of government-owned businesses (GOEs), which are anticipated to be defended due to the fact that the estimate does not always include all of the facts.
