Segun Okepemu, 43, was charged with a N566,000 land fraud on Friday before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The defendant, who has no established residential address, was charged with fraud and disturbing the peace on two counts, and he entered a not guilty plea.
The defendant committed the crimes in 2012 at Zunuch Whesumme via the Ilogbo-Eremi area of Badagry, Lagos, according to Police Prosecutor ASP Nkem Ukor.
He claimed that by selling the same piece of land to a different buyer after the complainant had planted pineapple, cocoyam, yam, and cassava on the property, the defendant had acted in a way that was likely to disturb the peace.
He claimed that the offenses were in violation of Sections 314 and 168 of the Lagos State Penal Code 2015.
The chief Justice, Patrick Adekomaiya, truly the litigant bail in the amount of N200,000 with two guarantees in like aggregate.
Adekomaiya said the guarantees should dwell inside the court’s locale with proof of assessment installment to the Lagos State Government.
The main judge dismissed the case till October 11, for notice.
