The Bauchi State Police Command has detained a 30-year-old man who specializes in stealing motorcycles.

The suspects, Kabiru Danfulani, who is now at large, and Bello Mohammed, also known as Faruk Manja, have been committing their heinous crimes for more than four years. Both are residents of Bauchi’s Bakaro Area.

According to a statement made available to state press by Ahmed Wakil, the police public relations officer for the Bauchi state command, the suspect admitted to stealing more than 20 motorcycles with his companion (Danfulani) over the course of the investigation.

Police Superintendent Wakil claimed that the two-man gang had been terrorizing the states of Yobe and Bauchi.

He claimed that the suspects unlawfully planned together to rob a resident of Old Airport Road, GRA, of a Honda Civic valued N640,000 and a broken-down motorcycle.

He claimed that when the victim called the police to report the occurrence, they swiftly acted and apprehended them as they attempted to flee in the stolen car.

A two-man group that specializes in stealing motorcycles and has operated in Bauchi and neighboring States for roughly four years has been apprehended by the Command.

“On August 24, 2023, at around 6.30 am, a male named Aliyu Muhammad Gidado of old Airport Road GRA, Bauchi, reported to B’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Bauchi metropolis, that on the same day at around 4 am, he discovered that Bello Mohammed, also known as Faruk Manja, a male (30), of the Bakaro area of Bauchi and Kabiru Danfulani, a male of Muda Lawal Bauchi, who is currently at large,

Immediately after receiving the report, a team of detectives under the direction of DPO B’ Division CSP Holman Simon sprang into action and alerted other police patrol teams and divisions both inside and outside the State to the event.

“Thereafter, while attempting to flee in the stolen car along the Maiduguri-Bauchi route, police officers assigned to the Soro Division, led by SP Aliyu Goni, the DPO of the division, stopped the car and detained one of the offenders.

“During questioning, the first suspect voluntarily admitted to having been a motorcycle thief for about four years and having taken roughly 20 Jincheng robber motorcycles and carried such menace in different areas of Bauchi and Yobe States, respectively, while the second suspect is currently on the run,” the statement read.

According to him, the suspects’ stolen car and skeletal motorcycle have been found, and an investigation is ongoing. Efforts are being stepped up to apprehend the suspects’ remaining evading accomplices, after which the accused will face charges in court.
