The Football Association has punished Manchester United for failing to maintain control of its players during Sunday’s scoreless draw with Newcastle.
After Craig Pawson disallowed a Cristiano Ronaldo goal just after halftime, United’s players confronted him angrily.
The official mentioned the event in his match report, and the FA later filed a complaint.
The regulatory board stated: “It is alleged that Manchester United FC failed to guarantee that its players conducted themselves in an orderly manner during the 49th minute of this encounter.”
Despite Ronaldo having another goal disallowed and Jadon Sancho’s penalty challenge being rejected, United boss Erik ten Hag steadfastly refrained from openly criticizing Pawson’s performance.
After the game, Ten Hag told reporters that “everyone had watched the game.” I won’t judge the teams’ and the referees’ performance because that is your responsibility, not mine.
The deadline for United to respond to the charge is October 20.
