Manchester City financial breaches and Premier League investigation

Manchester City 115 charges have reached a major stage after the club was reportedly found guilty of 114 of the 115 Premier League financial rule breaches brought against it.

The findings relate to allegations covering several seasons. The Premier League accused Manchester City of failing to provide accurate financial information between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons.

The club has denied the allegations.

An independent commission heard the case in a lengthy hearing that concluded in December 2024. The panel then took almost two years to reach its findings.

Reports of the verdict emerged on Friday, 25 September 2026. The reported finding means the commission has upheld almost all of the charges against the club.

However, the case is not yet completely over.

Manchester City is expected to appeal the findings. The club will therefore have another opportunity to challenge the commission’s decision through the relevant legal process.

The Premier League brought the Manchester City 115 charges case in February 2023 after a long investigation into the club’s financial affairs.

The allegations covered several areas. They included claims that City failed to provide accurate financial information and failed to cooperate with the Premier League’s investigation.

The charges also covered financial information relating to player and manager payments, as well as alleged breaches of financial regulations.

For now, the reported guilty findings do not amount to an announced sporting punishment.

The commission still has to determine any sanction arising from the findings. Possible penalties in such cases can depend on the specific rules and breaches involved.

The outcome could therefore lead to another stage of legal proceedings if Manchester City appeals.

The Manchester City 115 charges case has attracted sustained attention because of the number of allegations and the length of the proceedings.

The independent hearing ended in 2024, but the verdict did not follow immediately. That delay generated considerable speculation about when the commission would publish its decision.

For Manchester City, the next step will centre on the appeal process and any punishment that may follow.
