Manchester United has agreed to sign Dutch forward Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley for the remainder of the 2022-23 season, according to reports.
The Dutch international impressed during the FIFA World Cup and will join the Premier League side from Turkish club Besiktas, where he was also on loan. According to reports, Manchester United agreed to pay around 2.5 million pounds to end Weghorst’s loan spell at the Turkish Super League club early.
The 30-year-old caused havoc in the World Cup quarterfinal against Argentina, scoring twice off the bench, including a last-second equalizer that sent the game to penalties.
Weghorst had eight goals and four assists in 17 games for Besiktas.
The striker will be a valuable addition to Erik ten Hag’s squad, which includes Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Antony and Anthony Elanga.
Besiktas can now sign Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar, whose contract was terminated by Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr to make room for Cristiano Ronaldo.
More to come.
