On Monday, Marcelo Bielsa was officially named the new Uruguayan head coach through the end of the 2026 World Cup.
The Uruguayan Football Association honored the 67-year-old Bielsa’s appointment with a video and several memes that parodied the Argentine’s reputation as a brilliant manager.

When Uruguay is slated to play friendlies against Nicaragua and Cuba in June, Bielsa’s first games are most likely to take place. In September, South American World Cup qualifying will start.
Argentina was led by Bielsa from 1998 until 2004. At the 2002 World Cup, his squad was eliminated in the group stage, and at the 2004 Athens Olympics, they took home the gold. He departed the company for private reasons.
Chile was coached by Bielsa from 2007 to 2011.
Additionally, he has spent time with Espayol, Athletic Bilbao, Marseille, and Lille. Since Leeds dismissed him in February 2022, he has been without a job.
In the group stage of the 2017 World Cup in Qatar, Uruguay was eliminated.
