The administration of Enugu State has decided to collaborate with the federal government, via the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), and other relevant parties to build a state-of-the-art terminal and rail transit in order to revamp the state’s transportation infrastructure.
Yesterday, at the Government House in Enugu, Governor Peter Mbah revealed the idea to the NRC managing director, Engr. Freeborn Okhiria, and his team members.
In order to improve people’s quality of life, boost the economy, and promote ease of doing business, the governor stated that the transportation sector will be remodeled to incorporate a multimodal transport system that includes air, train, and road travel.
According to Mbah, the state’s current transportation system has begun to cause discomfort for its citizens because much of the infrastructure has deteriorated, resulting in traffic jams. He promised to work with stakeholders to make the projects feasible.
“To accomplish our objectives, we must work in tandem with the federal government,” he declared. This is what we are doing for the benefit of our people as a whole. We may easily adopt a defeatist perspective to growth, but it is wrong that we arrived, saw things as they were, and chose to do nothing. However, as a government, we acknowledged that there had to be space for constant, unending progress. And for this principal purpose, we swore the oath of office.
“The wellbeing of our people is our first priority, and from what we are proposing, it appears that everyone would benefit—the government, the railway, and the present operators, among others. Nobody really seems to like lingering in traffic jams there, in my opinion, nor the kind of surroundings they are in. The governor said, “The fumes and pollutants are dangerous to human health.
Okhiria had earlier praised the governor for taking the correct tack in bringing stakeholders together to find a consensus on the project.
While he urged the governor to keep talking to everyone who could be impacted by the project, he also stated that the firm will gain from the project’s completion.
“If such location is open and near the station, you can, therefore, take the train to your goal after arriving by bus. According to our intermodal approach or what we have been advocating for in the transportation industry, it will make things smooth,” he remarked.
