Tunji wusu –
Peter Mbah, the governor of Enugu State, inaugurated the Joint Accounts Allocation Committee (JAAC) of the state, declaring that cash from local governments must be used to help the populace escape poverty.
Comrade Anthony Udeh serves as head of the 16-member committee, while Dr. Peter Aneke serves as secretary. Other members of the group include Mr. Tony Okenwa, the state’s accountant general, and Hon. Okechukwu Edeh, the chapter chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in Enugu State.
Governor Mbah referred to the local government as the level of government closest to the people in his statement at the event held at the Government House in Enugu yesterday. He also tasked members with making sure that the State Joint Local Government Account is used to report the income of LGAs.
In his words, “We believe we must ensure that the people who will manage and ensure the allocation, monitoring, and distribution of this account are credible people because the local government is that arm of our government that is closest to the people. The local government account is a very important account.
We feel that the local government is the best-positioned arm to do this since it is our responsibility to ensure that we help bring our people out of the abyss of poverty.
