Despite the Court of Appeal nullifying his presidency, Musiliu ‘MC Oluomo’ Akinsanya assumed office on Tuesday as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
This move comes after the appellate court reaffirmed Ibikunle Baruwa as the legitimate president in a ruling that also upheld a National Industrial Court judgment from March 11. The court awarded N100,000 in costs against MC Oluomo in favor of the respondents.
MC Oluomo, who had been elected unopposed at the union’s zonal secretariat in Osogbo, made his assumption of office public for the first time since the ruling. Meanwhile, human rights lawyer Femi Falana has called on the federal government to enforce Baruwa’s reinstatement, urging the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police to act swiftly.
