Global tech giant Meta has launched new paid subscription plans for its most popular social media applications. The major corporate decision marks an aggressive move by the company to build new income streams outside of its traditional digital advertising business.
The head of product at the firm, Naomi Gleit, announced the updates through a public video shared on Instagram. The company is introducing Facebook Plus, Instagram Plus, and WhatsApp Plus to users worldwide, with further premium packages currently being designed for corporate accounts, digital creators, and artificial intelligence tools. This massive shift comes at a time when financial investors are closely watching the company’s heavy spending on next-generation technology. The organization recently estimated its total infrastructure spending—mostly for advanced data hubs—to reach between $125 billion and $145 billion this year. Wall Street responded positively to the announcement, causing the firm’s stock value to jump by nearly three per cent.
According to market updates, Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus will cost users $3.99 every month, while the WhatsApp Plus option will retail at $2.99 per month. Choosing a paid subscription plan unlocks several exclusive tools, including advanced account analytics, special story rewatch data, broader post reach, and unique profile design options. Meanwhile, the WhatsApp upgrade focuses on personal touches, offering premium stickers, unique ringtones, and custom visual themes.
Gleit explained that the tech firm eventually wants to combine these separate options into a single master package called Meta One. The business previously introduced ad-free, premium versions of its platforms across Europe in 2023 to meet strict regional privacy laws. However, this latest global paid subscription plan roll-out focuses entirely on giving everyday users more control and features. This new paid subscription plan structure could completely change how billions of people interact with social apps.
