Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel, could miss the remainder of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Goal reports.
The 32-year-old strained his knee during Nigeria defeat 2-0 loss to Madagascar last weekend and was replaced by Alex Iwobi in the 59th minute.
After several checks by the medical staff, Mikel Obi was ruled out of their Round of 16 clash against Cameroon.
Now, there are fears that the midfielder could miss the rest of the tournament.
Should the fears be confirmed, Gernot Rohr could be left with just Iwobi to fill the creative role in Nigeria’s midfield.
Although the problem is not thought to be severe, Rohr will not risk exacerbating the injury.
