The Military Pensions Board (MPB) reported that it has paid the minimum salary arrears of 24 months owing to retired military personnel.
Rear Admiral SA Lawal, the board’s chairman and head of the Military Pensions Board, announced in a statement that the final payment, which represents 25% of the 24 months’ arrears, started on November 3, 2022.
According to him, the payment was made in accordance with the Board’s commitment made following the payment of the third tranche of the minimum wage arrears on August 4, 2022.
In accordance with the agreement reached between the Board and the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning (FMoFBNP) for quarterly release of the appropriated sum this year, the fourth and final tranche is being paid to eligible military retirees who are active on the Board’s data base.
“Therefore, it is urged that all Eligible Military Pensioners contact their respective Banks for their entitlements.”
“The Board wishes to congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR for his enormous assistance to the Board and military retirees on behalf of our respected military pensioners,” he continued.
Additionally, the Board expresses its gratitude to the Honorable Minister of Defence, Maj Gen BS Magashi (Rtd), the Honorable Minister of Finance Budget and National Planning, Hajia Zainab Ahmed, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen LEO Irabor, as well as the Service Chiefs for their assistance in making sure that the necessary funds were allocated in the 2022 appropriation Act and cash-backed appropriately.
Military retirees were commended by the board chairman for their “patience, understanding, and continuous support.”
