The federal government says it is now designing a new public service salary system based on employee productivity, which could result in personnel at the same level earning different compensation.
Dr. Nasir Raji-Mustapha, Director-General of the National Productivity Centre (NPC), made the announcement during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, May 12.
He stated, “We are in the process of implementing a productivity-led wage structure that will ensure that individuals who are productive are rewarded for their work regardless of grade level.
Employees on the same salary tier may be paid differently under the proposed scheme.” When asked if the idea has the endorsement and input of organized labor, Dr Raji-Mustapha stated, “Of course, labor as a major stakeholder is being carried along in this exercise.
