On Sunday night, three families’ five children locked themselves in an abandoned car for more than five hours, suffocating to death. The tragedy occurred in Minna, the capital of Niger State.

The incident has left the community in mourning. It happened in Gurara Albishir Area 1, which is situated along Bida Road in Minna.

A trustworthy source claims that the kids were playing in a big complex outside their homes when they unintentionally trapped themselves inside the owner’s abandoned Honda Civic, which had been sitting idle for almost two years.

According to the source, they locked themselves out since about 11 a.m. while their parents were searching for them. Around 4 p.m., after a desperate search of the area, the parents found their remains in the car.

According to information obtained by Nee Telegraph, two of the victims were the offspring of the car’s owner and two of the victims were siblings who were the only children of their parents.

They were identified as Zahra (female), 10, Aisha (female), 7, Fati (female), 5, and Isah 7 (male). It was not possible to determine the age of the fifth victim, who is also a female.

Aminu Ladan, the Chairman of the Chanchaga Local Government Area, whose home is close to the scene of the incident, confirmed the incidence and called it regrettable.

The parents of the slain children received condolences from the Chairman who had visited the spot. The children were buried at the Kpakungu graveyard in accordance with Islamic customs.
