Missing NYSC Member Found Dead in Bayelsa

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who was reported missing while serving in Bayelsa State has been found dead under tragic circumstances. Okebaram Stanley Chimaroke, a Civil Engineering graduate and former Student Union Government (SUG) President of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, was serving in Nembe Local Government Area when he reportedly disappeared. The incident has sparked fresh concerns over the safety of corps members, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the NYSC member’s death.

According to information shared by colleagues and associates, Chimaroke’s lifeless body was allegedly recovered from a body of water in Nembe after he was reportedly attacked by unidentified assailants. However, authorities have not officially confirmed the circumstances surrounding the NYSC member’s death.

The Bayelsa State Police Command had earlier launched a search after Chimaroke was reported missing. Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the case was filed at about 8:40 p.m. on July 25, 2026, by fellow corps member Aribisola Bis Isaac, who was accompanied by Adeola Marvelous.

Police sources said the Local Government Inspector confirmed that the 27-year-old corps member, posted to serve in Nembe Creek, was last seen at about 8:00 p.m. on July 24. Several attempts to reach him through his phone numbers reportedly failed, prompting concern over his whereabouts.

Following the report, police operatives were deployed to the creek headquarters to begin search and investigation efforts.

Although reports now claim that Chimaroke’s body has been recovered, the Bayelsa State Police Command has yet to officially verify the development or disclose the exact cause and circumstances of the NYSC member’s death. Investigations are continuing to establish what happened and identify anyone who may have been involved.

The tragic incident has generated widespread sympathy and renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect corps members serving in different parts of the country.
