For the first time in 66 years, the sound of Formula 1 machinery will not echo through the streets of Monaco as the organizers have announced the cancellation of this year’s Grand Prix due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Following the news from F1 that said the iconic race in Monaco has been postponed along with the races in the Netherlands and Spain, now the organizers in Monte Carlo have clarified that Formula one’s jewel in the crown, the Monaco Grand Prix which had been traditionally held on the final weekend of May will not take place this season, as it has been cancelled for the first time since 1954.
The organizers said in a statement that the situation is no longer tenable, thus they will not seek a new date.
It is still hoped the other two races can be rescheduled later in the year as F1 has already scrapped the summer shutdown to slot in some races.
