Morocco Eyes 2030 World Cup Final

Morocco could be set to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup final after FIFA president Gianni Infantino reportedly offered the showpiece match to the North African nation instead of co-hosts Spain and Portugal.

According to a report by The Times, the proposed venue is the planned Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca, a state-of-the-art arena expected to accommodate around 115,000 spectators. If approved, the move would mark a major milestone for Morocco and African football.

The reported offer comes at a challenging time for Infantino, who continues to face growing criticism over FIFA’s governance. His proposal to attract private investment for organising FIFA competitions, including the FIFA World Cup, was recently abandoned after attracting widespread opposition from UEFA, European leagues and CONCACAF.

Former Portugal star Luis Figo, who once considered running for the FIFA presidency, strongly criticised Infantino’s leadership. He wrote, “I could write 10,000 words on the problems at FIFA. But the solution needs only three: Infantino must go.”

If Morocco secures the 2030 World Cup final, it would be a significant disappointment for Spain, which had hoped to stage the final at the iconic Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. The development also comes ahead of the 2027 FIFA Congress in Rabat, where the next FIFA presidential election will take place, leading to speculation about possible political considerations behind the reported offer.

Support for Infantino has remained strong among several members of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), including officials linked to Morocco. Meanwhile, the Football Association of Spain has continued to call for changes in FIFA’s leadership and governance model.
