– Club Context: Fenerbahçe has faced accusations of bias from the chairman and is now using foreign VARs.
– Current Standing: Fenerbahçe is second in the league, three points behind Galatasaray, and preparing for a Europa League match.

Fenerbahçe manager José Mourinho received a booking from the referee on Sunday following his protests against a VAR decision that disallowed a goal. In an unusual demonstration, Mourinho placed a laptop in front of a TV camera to display an image he believed proved Edin Džeko was onside during the buildup to the strike.

After Fenerbahçe’s 2-0 victory over Antalyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig, Mourinho expressed his frustration, stating, “For us, it’s a good goal. I like good VAR… I just want a VAR that helps the referee make the right decisions.”

This incident comes after Fenerbahçe chairman Ali Koç previously accused the league’s video assistant referees of bias against the club, leading to the decision to hire foreign VAR officials for the remainder of the 2023-24 season. Currently, Fenerbahçe sits second in the league table with 16 points from seven matches, trailing champion Galatasaray by three points. Mourinho’s team is set to face FC Twente in the Europa League on Thursday.
