The family of late Mr Ibu, born John Okafor, has received ₦7.5 million in donations following a public appeal highlighting their financial struggles. The support came after a video revealed the family’s unpaid rent, outstanding school fees and difficult living conditions. The Mr Ibu family donations will help ease immediate financial pressures and provide much-needed support for the actor’s widow and children.
Content creator King Mitchy shared the update on Instagram on Friday, two days after posting a video in which the late actor’s widow and children appealed for assistance. She thanked everyone who contributed, saying, “First of all, I sincerely want to thank everyone who donated. Together, we were able to raise ₦7.5 million for the family. God bless every single one of you.”
She explained that the funds would cover the children’s school fees, including the eldest daughter’s WAEC examination fees, and also settle the family’s rent. “This support will help pay the children’s school fees, including the eldest daughter’s WAEC fees, which they couldn’t afford. It will also help them with rent,” she added. The Mr Ibu family donations are expected to give the family greater stability while they work towards rebuilding their lives.
King Mitchy also revealed that she advised the widow to move to a more affordable home after learning about the family’s financial situation. She said, “I only met her two days ago after a neighbour called me to help. I knew nothing about the family’s situation before then. My only focus from the beginning has been to make sure the children get the help they deserve.”
The appeal followed a viral video in which the widow disclosed that the family had lived without electricity for about two months, relied on well water and had withdrawn their children from school because of unpaid fees. Mr Ibu family donations have now provided relief after months of hardship. The beloved comic actor passed away on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62 following a prolonged illness.
