By Babatunji Wusu| Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the eldest son of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who is the vice-presidential candidate of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), has been selected as the party’s deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Kano governorship election.

Mustapha will contest alongside Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the NDC governorship candidate, as the party prepares for the next electoral cycle in Kano State.

The announcement was confirmed on Monday by the spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano, Habibu Saleh Mohammed, who disclosed the development in a brief statement while unveiling the party’s running mate.

“His Excellency Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo unveiled Hon. Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as running mate for the 2027 Governorship Election,” Mohammed wrote.

The nomination marks a significant step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 Kano governorship election, with Mustapha expected to play a key role in strengthening the NDC’s campaign efforts across the state.

Before securing the nomination, Mustapha Kwankwaso served as Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Kano State under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. He later resigned from the position following the governor’s defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Party supporters view his political experience and involvement in public service as assets that could contribute to the NDC’s ambitions in the state. His emergence also adds another prominent figure to the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 Kano governorship election.

With the selection now confirmed, attention is expected to shift to the party’s campaign strategy as it seeks to build support and strengthen its position ahead of the polls. The 2027 Kano governorship election is expected to attract significant interest as political parties continue to shape their tickets and alliances.
