The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced a 100 percent increase in Ration Cash Allowance for its personnel, alongside improved insurance benefits under a newly introduced Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy.
The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, made the disclosure on Monday during the commissioning of new accommodation facilities at the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base in Lagos.
According to Abubakar, the increments are included in the 2025 budget as part of proactive measures to cushion the effects of rising living costs and improve the general welfare of NAF personnel.
“In the meantime, a 100 percent increment in the Ration Cash Allowance for 2025 has already been established as a proactive measure to support personnel amid rising living costs,” he said.
The Air Chief also revealed that discussions are ongoing with the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) to review the Armed Forces Manual of Financial Administration in a bid to further enhance the welfare package of NAF personnel.
In addition, he announced the large-scale distribution of new uniforms and accoutrements to troops, aimed at achieving 100 percent coverage within two weeks. He also noted an upward review of the monthly electricity subsidy at the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base.
Reaffirming his commitment to personnel welfare, Air Marshal Abubakar disclosed that 23 beneficiaries nine of them recently have received substantial payouts under the new Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy. The policy covers bodily injuries, permanent or temporary disability, death, medical expenses, and salary reimbursement during hospitalization.
“Beyond financial and material welfare, the NAF has increased infrastructural projects to over 470 nationwide, covering residential buildings, operational facilities, sporting complexes, medical centres, and places of worship,” he added.
According to him, 295 of these projects, representing 63 percent, have been completed, while 175 are currently ongoing. He further disclosed that over N61 billion has been invested in these infrastructural developments, which include road upgrades, water supply systems, and electricity infrastructure at various NAF bases.
