In Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) destroyed bogus and faked expired medications and unwholesome food goods valued N326, 833,592,80 on Thursday.
Benue, Kogi, plateau, Kwara, Niger, and Nasarawa were included in the exercise that was conducted by the North Central zonal office.
Prof. Moji Adeyeye, Director General of NAFDAC, criticized Nigerians for continuing to import, distribute, and sell dangerous, dangerous drugs into the nation despite the fact that NAFDAC-regulated products continue to pose health risks to people’s lives in her speech at the destruction dumpsite in Lafia.
“As part of our legal obligations, we are currently seeing various categories of controlled goods worth more than N326, 833,592,80 being destroyed.
According to the NAFDAC DG, the products destroyed comprised various outdated medications, foods, cosmetics, chemicals, and either were seized from businesses, trade unions, and people within the zone.
The DG used the exercise to solicit help from the general people, corporate organizations, religious and traditional rulers to rid the nation of fraudulent and contaminated goods. The DG was represented by Francis Ononiwu, Director, Investigation and Enforcement Directorate.
“NAFDAC wish to solicit for the support and cooperation of the general public, corporate organizations, traditional rulers, religious leaders, health practitioners, and the media in the fight against illicit drugs,” NAFDAC DG stated. “In it’s effort to rid the country of fake medicines and other regulated products including unwholesome food products.
Security agencies, as well as those involved in the distribution of drugs and food, among others, watched the drill.
