At the start of business on Monday, the value of the naira resumed its downward trend, plunging to N1,210 to the dollar on the parallel market, from N1,170 at the closing last week.

The naira dropped 5.4% last week to NGN808.27 to the dollar at the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM), commonly referred to as the Importers and Exporters window.

Parallel market merchants attribute the ongoing depreciation of the naira’s value on the dollar’s scarcity on the market.
