Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) has rusticated 37 students for the entire 2024/2025 academic session due to their alleged involvement in a protest against the university’s decision to introduce a third semester. The students were reportedly part of a WhatsApp group organized to plan the demonstration, which led to accusations of criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance of public peace, and cyber-stalking.
Official documents dated December 9, 2024, and January 21, 2025, revealed that the students were summoned before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee. Following the committee’s findings, the University Senate, during its 123rd Regular Meeting on October 31, 2024, reviewed and approved the decision to rusticate the students for one academic session.
In a formal letter signed by the Registrar, Dr. Bala I. Ahmed, the students were instructed to remain off-campus unless given written permission. They are required to return for the 2025/2026 academic session’s first semester with their parents or guardians and submit a written commitment to exhibit good behavior throughout the rest of their academic tenure.
