Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has declared that Nigerians deserve elections that command trust, strengthen national unity and genuinely reflect the will of the people.

The senator made the assertion on Tuesday via a post on her Facebook page, ahead of the Senate’s emergency plenary session convened to deliberate on the contentious amendments to the Electoral Act.

Akpoti-Uduaghan said she entered the Senate chamber bearing the expectations of millions of Nigerians demanding stronger democratic safeguards and credible electoral laws.

According to her, real-time electronic transmission of election results remains a crucial reform capable of deepening transparency and protecting the sanctity of the people’s mandate.

She stressed that embracing electronic transmission would not only curb electoral manipulation but also restore public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process, which has been repeatedly undermined by disputes over result collation.

The emergency sitting of the Senate is expected to focus on key provisions of the Electoral Act amendment, including issues surrounding technology-driven election management and result transmission.
