Electricity distribution companies have begun restoring power supply across parts of their franchise areas following Monday’s national grid collapse that plunged several parts of the country into darkness.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company disclosed this in separate statements issued on X late Monday.

The national grid suffered a system disturbance at about 2 pm, disrupting electricity supply nationwide. Hours later, grid operators commenced restoration efforts, leading to a gradual return of power.

By midnight, electricity allocation to distribution companies climbed to 3,411 megawatts, a sharp recovery from the 50 megawatts recorded at the height of the collapse.

Confirming the development, AEDC said electricity supply had progressively returned across parts of its coverage area following improved energy availability from the national grid.

“Further to our earlier notice regarding our loss of supply from the national grid, we wish to inform you that our energy availability has improved,” the company stated. “As a result, power supply has been progressively restored across parts of our franchise area. Restoration efforts are ongoing to ensure full stabilization of supply.”

Similarly, the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company informed customers that power was being restored gradually, noting that feeders were coming back on stream.

Operators say restoration activities are ongoing as efforts continue to stabilize supply nationwide.
